Look at baby Nikki! My hair curling skills have definitely improved!
Not much to say about this dress. It was one the second pattern I ever made and the first vintage pattern I owned. 2007! Blows my mind how long ago that was. I've been sewing for a long time you guys. I also made the petticoat which was the first and last time for that! At the time though, I didn't know how to resize things, and I didn't know how to pick out good fabric so the dress was not only too big, but the fabric stretched like mad. Some of that stuff with built in wrinkles that just stretches out when you iron it. But as you can tell, it looked super frumpy.
It's been sitting around since the first time wearing it (out to The Nutcracker back in 2007) waiting for it to be redone. And last year was the year! Yay quarantine! I had to take the bodice apart completely because taking in the side seams enough ate up the bust darts, so it basically had to be remade. I'm happy with how it turned out though! Because it is a 50s pattern and I didn't adjust it, the skirt is huge and a long length, which feels so glamourous. Generally I shorten things now, because I'm cheap and it takes a lot of fabric, but this is kind of fun!
I've been mad busy lately, I don't really know with what, it's just bad scheduling that is keeping me up in Boston for long periods at a time, which generally means less sewing. Which is ridiculous because I also feel that I barely work at all and I should have time. But I haven't gotten around to a Christmas dress yet this year. We'll see how it goes.
