I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers. - LM Montgomery
It's almost that time again! I made this last year out of a 1953 vintage Simplicity 4213 from my collection. It reminded me a bit of Gertie's Hepburn top, which I didn't own at the time, so I used it for this knit fabric even though the pattern is for wovens. And now having the Hepburn pattern, I might continue to use this one, it seems to fit better for me! Older patterns tend to fit me without much issue, just not the modern ones so much. Anyway, same grown on sleeves, darts, and a fun ruched sleeve!
I didn't really make any changes to the pattern to adapt it for knits except take out the zipper. I didn't want the normal negative ease you have with knit patterns because this fabric isn't actually that great and when it stretches the white underside shows through. So I simply treated it like a woven fabric. Even bad fabric is worth it when it is covered in shiny little bats!
After I finished it I decided it definitely needed something else so I scoured Etsy for some sparkly baby ricrac and it was the perfect finishing touch. The skirt in the pictures was made for just some seasonal fun a few years back.
