This. I don't know why I made this or where I'm going to wear it, but I absolutely love it. It's a fun mix of vintage and modern. My boyfriend picked out and bought the fabric for me at the fabric store I love in Dallas and I let him be part of the design process for it. I just told him it had to be long because the print was so huge. He gave some inspiration photos and I spinned it into a vintage style and made it. He actually really enjoys designing and picking out fabrics and things. He was so stoked when picking out fabric for some vests I'm making him. And I always let him pick out my jewelry when we go out. Maybe it's a byproduct of working in the film business with stylists. Or he just has a good eye for it.
The pattern is McCalls 3400, a reproduction I bought from Lady Marlowe patterns. It fit without any major changes as it is available in multiple sizes from the website. And it was a very uncomplicated pattern to make, which is nice. It went together surprisingly quickly! The fabric is a medium weight probably polyester and has almost a scuba knit feel to it, but softer and with a better drape. The fabrics are definitely not labeled at the store I go to. But it was perfect for this dress and the skirt. It moves so well. Hopefully I'll have somewhere to wear it someday soon!
The only issue I had is what to wear underneath it. The sides have such a deep cut and the back is basically open. I ended up using a backless bustier that I've had since my high school formal days!
Ugh, and I almost forgot about hand knotting strands of embroidery thread to make all the button loops! That took AGES.
