Summer is slowly coming to an end so I should try and post a few more warm weather clothes before winter hits completely. This is McCall 340, a 1940's pattern from my collection in a very light weight fern print gauze from Joann's.
This was an extremely easy top to make. I'm sure I'll make others and I'm sure I'll make some of the views on the envelope. I'm really into big sleeves so maybe the long sleeve version! With the right fabric that could be SO glamorous.
I had an extremely small piece of this gauze so I ended up just ending it a little below the waist and shirring a few inches (maybe an inch and a half) instead of making that bit that tucks in down at the bottom. It doesn't show on the cover, but the pattern gathers to a flat piece at the waist that makes it easier to tuck into skirts. I really love it though. Might look a bit strange to have that part without tucking it in anyway, so this works well with jeans or shorts for summer. I think I originally planned to make a Rita blouse out of this piece, but the gauze lended itself to something even lighter and more flowy, so I think this vintage pattern worked perfectly. And I love the loose but comfortable neckline, I feel like I make a lot of things that I always have to be worried about shoulders slipping or too much skin or whatever, so it's always nice to have some comfortable.
Since I started work for the first time since the pandemic at the beginning of July, the summer just seemed to blink away instantly. I've been very lucky in the jobs I've been getting though, so hopefully I'll be able to take some time off so that autumn doesn't completely get away from me too.
