Since the weather is slowly warming up and the brief summer season is ahead, I thought it was time to post this marvelous outfit I made LAST summer. It didn't get nearly enough wear, but I'm madly in love with this outfit. It is everything I wanted it to be and more. I bought the skirt pattern at the very very beginning of quarantine and remember walking around a closed golf course (way way back in the early days of the pandemic) explaining to my boyfriend my entire idea for this outfit. And thus it was created! If I ever go to Hawaii, it's definitely coming with me.
The skirt is a vintage Vogue 8532, didn't really have to make any adjustments except that this fabric was super drapey and a pain to get the pleats right! This pattern is a jewel of my collection for sure! The pleats are just magical. They would show up much better in a less drapey fabric for sure. Maybe in the future.
Vintage pattern Dubarry 6144, which is actually a pyjama pattern, for the top with different sleeves added - flutter instead of straight (just stolen from a modern dress pattern). If you want to make your own, the reproduction Simplicity pattern above is a very similar design. There were some very small things I preferred out of this one though, like the fun pleating at the shoulders that sort of make it look like a lapel.
Reproduction pattern Simplicity 8654 for the shorts. A very popular pattern and I would definitely make more. No major drafting problems and they are so flippy and fun! As usual, make sure you go by the finished garment measurements, no need for extra ease in the waistband!
