w, 3 months since I posted last! Honestly, I just hate taking pictures of myself, which is why I never post things.
It hasn't seemed like a busy summer, but I guess it has been a bit. Our new cat, Augustus, died while I was on an away job in June. Ate some string and they couldn't save him. I still think about him everyday, he was such a personality and so loyal. He was only with us 4 months but he made such a huge impact on my life and I spent so much time with him while he was here. It just still doesn't seem fair. It's been rough on everyone losing him through such a stupid accident. Anyway, I hate to talk about it, but I hope that any sewing person that comes here can learn from that and keep a very close eye on your pets. It wasn't something I even knew was fatal.
The rest of June was taken up with work and then 3 weeks on vacation to Scotland and Paris. 2 of my favourite places ever :) Got back in July, and started working again. Now I'm off! I've also spent a lot of time copying, redrafting, and cataloguing some of my vintage pattern collection and that takes up a bit of time. I mean....I have an obscene number of patterns. I just can't.stop.buying.
And then I get horribly sick of redrafting and muslins and more redrafting and things not quite fitting and more redrafting and more copying. So, I now have 4 different projects going on and I throw in a couple of quickies to make it not seem so hopeless, lol. So behold, retro tops! Both pretty quick to make, neither taking much fabric and minimal adjustments. Just what I needed! I've been wanting to make more vintage style separates, so it's a start!
Being short on fabric I made view C. I've had this fabric for AGES and there was never enough to really make anything out of it, so I was just waiting for the right shirt pattern to come along. Glad I saved it for this one! A pattern from the super popular designer, Gertie.
I made a slightly smaller size than normal because it is such a loose fitting top, which seems a bit odd considering all the shaping involved. Only adjustments were a small sba and squeezing in a bit at the top neckline to bring the shoulders in a bit and hopefully keep it from gaping. Not many construction notes on this one, it was a simple and straight forward pattern. Helps not to have to over-fit something. I'd definitely make this again. Maybe in a colour I can actually wear with something other than jeans
Another quick and easy pattern. Even easier because it is all knit and there are no darts! I used up some fabric scraps for this one, the back of the ties are just a black jersey, I ran out of the main fabric. I knew I kept scraps for a reason. Such a comfortable top, this jersey is SO soft. I'll probably make this one again too! Maybe in a stripe. Could go with making it a smaller size, it isn't too fitted. And I reinforced some of the seams with clear elastic.
I really need to set up the attic into an overflow sewing space and set up a small photo studio. Taking pictures in this room is horrid. Always comes out dark and does weird things to colours. Or, you know, I could go outside :P
