Listen to that fireplace roar
If I could do a photoshoot of this dress it would be curled up next to a fire cradling some hot tea/chocolate/toddy and just being all cozy warm. This fabric is so toasty, soft, and comfortable! Unfortunately, I don't have a fireplace and this isn't a photoshoot (obviously, I couldn't even get my pictures in focus!), but I can still dream about it :)
This is a lot like a dress I made last year, except the sleeves are longer and have cuffs. But basically the same. I should really make a pattern for it. I like the idea of having basic bodice patterns for necklines that I like that I can adjust to make different dresses or shirts. You'll probably notice a similar top on at least a few other dresses I've made so far. The cuffs are something a copied off a gap shirt I had years ago, a tube about 6 inches long (ends up about 2.5"-3"), doubled over so that there aren't any seams near the wrist, and serged to the bottom of the sleeve, another element I've used previously; so comfortable!
Strangely, though this fabric is a really thick jersey/sweater fabric, it is CLINGY. Not in a 'I made the dress to tight' sort of way, but it just hangs strangely or something. LUCKILY....I just bought the most gorgeous slip from the recently-defunct Farr West. I don't know if it isn't something that is widely known about me, or maybe just to some unlucky people who happen to bring up the topic in conversation, but I'm slightly obsessed with lingerie. Seriously obsessed, actually, and I've been wanting something of theirs for ages. All it took was hearing that they were closing down for me to run frantically to my credit cards and buy something. So glad I did because this is one of the most gorgeous things that I own! And a slip is always useful. Totally justified purchase. And I'm going to share it, just because 1)it is awesome, 2)I got it on sale, 3) this was an amazing indie brand that had been around for decades and was based where I am from in California (totally irrelevant, but I like it!) and it is very sad that they went out of business. My dress form and a hanger will be modeling them for you, since it is quite see-through...

Well, I hope everyone had lovely holidays! It was so nice to have some time off and do things like see movies, sleep, sew, cook....just live in general. Back to work on Monday though! Thought I would get this dress posted before I disappear, I've got another one just about finished as well, but I'll probably be non-existant for a while (can you tell I'm looking forward to work?). So I guess I'll see you guys (the world) again in a few weeks. Keep your fingers crossed that the weather doesn't kick out another storm like this last one. That would really make the commute unpleasant!
Oh, but hey, speaking of lingerie, I'm going to be working with a Victoria Secret model on the next shoot. I have no idea what it is for, but that should be interesting at least! Oh, and a(n American) football player....but I care about football much less, lol. Catch you guys on the flip side!
