The amount of clothes that I've made and hadn't taken pictures of was getting absurd, not to mention cluttering up my sewing room (that doesn't even take into account my other crafts that I've made or the things that I've sewn for my mother). I have things from.....before Christmas. I just haven't been in the mood to take pictures at all. Winter will do that to ya. Plus, the past 5 or so projects have been SUN DRESSES. Because, like every year, if I wish for it hard enough, Spring will come. It is possible that it would come anyway, without my desperation and sewing dresses out of season, but I like to think it helps it along ;)
So this is one of the projects, Butterick 5850. Actually semi complicated, the instructions on the pleats for the neck where hard to understand, and the zipper on the side with the tie was a bit bizarre. I guess it is hard to tell from the pictures, but that 'cumberbund' part of dress is actually two long ties (attached at the side) wrapped around me, tied in the back. They could be tied in the front for a different look as well.
I swore I had enough fabric when I started, but when I came to cutting the skirt, I was a few inches short on the bottom. I thought I would make it a bit longer by using a hem facing, plus, it was just a bit of fun to throw in that tease of red. I don't know if that made it any longer, but I don't really care! I was worried I wouldn't like the dress because it isn't really my style, but it is a really fun dress. The skirt has a ton of fabric in it, and the red hem facing peeks out pretty often. I took a picture of my spinning around and it is almost indecent, so I'll have to be careful when I wear it out, lol.
I was slightly worried the pin stripe fabric in a flirty-fun dress would be a bit...obviously unorthodox (if that makes sense?) and therefore slightly tacky....especially with the red. But again.....I don't care :) And I don't think it looks too tacky at all. I haven't actually worn it except for these pictures, but it is a fun little dress.
