This would be my reaction if you asked me, 'What on earth were you thinking making such an ugly dress?' To be fair, the dress isn't that ugly, it just seems entirely too big on me. This was made well before Christmas, when I still (foolishly) made patterns based on my measurements and adjusting instead of simply cutting 2 sizes smaller at the beginning. And I've found that nearly all Vogue patterns I've made have come out big - I have another one that had the exact same problem ready to post. But, sew and learn I guess. Vogue thinks we are all chesty, apparently.
I may remake this one to be smaller. It is mostly the top that is a problem, but with the pleats and gathers, adjusting it may turn out to be a HUGE pain. The fabric was also not a smart choice, or rather, it would be fine with some alterations. Everything was stretchy and ended up becoming slightly warped. The waist needed elastic all the way around, and the skirt was so heavy that it tended to pull and stretch the top down. And the top could be made 2 sizes smaller, to make it look like the pattern picture and less like a giant sack.
...maybe I could just pull it up in the shoulders so it wouldn't look so blousy on my smallish chest. Or, I could remake the top all together, I have plenty of that fabric.....choices, choices. Or I could simply stuff it in the back of my closet and move on, lol.
The fabric is super soft though, and the dress has pockets. So it isn't all bad ;)
P.S. Typepad does some weird colour changes to my pictures when I upload them. Drastically cutting down on the file size maybe? It is unpleasant.
Also...they are grainy....but that could be my camera setting. I'll work on it.
