I don't know what that title means. Nothing. They all look basically the same, so I thought I would group them into one post. When I'm in a total inspirational funk I tend to make a lot of shirts. Easy, wearable, no thought process involved, and I don't ruin a piece of fabric by trying to force inspiration on it. It only takes a few hours (for these über-uncomplicated styles) so it makes me feel like I'm being productive and I like to think it gets the creative juices pumping. That isn't always the case, but it is the thought that counts, right?
Well, I've started on another project, a dress, which is a nice respite from shirts, but it left my sewing room in such a mess that I didn't have space to workout this morning. So, in lieu of working out, I used my time to take pictures of some of my old projects that I've finished in the past week to a few months. I get lazy with pictures, what can I say.
The orange shirt I remade from another horrendous 'no-inspiration' shirt that I had made forever ago that I seriously disliked. What is the point of it taking up space in my bulging closet if I'm never going to wear it? So I started messing with it, using it as a test-run for the black shirt above (drape, pattern, neckline, etc). I had thrown the black fabric over my dress form and I liked the drapey way it was hanging and wanted to keep that basic idea and the look of the excess fabric. So once I had it down, I made the black one and added the band of black jersey on the bottom. Done and done! Super comfortable! I put the turquoise shirt underneath so you could get a better idea of the pattern of the fabric. I love it!
The striped shirt is just a pretty basic bat wing shirt, band around the bottom (you can't really tell), and around the sleeves. Not as stretchy as I had imagined it would end up, so the bands on the arms are a little snug, but not uncomfortable. Now I know! You can't see in the pictures, but this is another cool piece of fabric. The navy stripe is just jersey, but the white is like a light, burnt-out lace pattern. Super lovely :) Close up picture is probably what I should have done...
I wasn't feeling particularly 'into it' (I mean, you wouldn't even see me outside without earrings on!), and as evident by some of the later pictures, I had moments were I went briefly mental. I thought it was a nice 'behind-the-scenes' look into what really happens while I take some of the pictures you see on this blog. You can always tell when a good song comes on ;) Or when I just need to blow off some steam, lol.
