Salut! A few projects that I finished in the past month or so that I haven't posted. I've done a few other things, but they are gifts, so I can't post it yet. And I'm mostly finished with another skirt. So maybe not so much time between posts? Perhaps :)
First, the Jacket!
So, not avant guarde or anything, but more than I'm used to! Stylish? Well, it has to be worn with a scarf because the neckline is a bit wide, lol, but whatever. This was a bit more difficult than normal because I added a extra warmth layer on the inside. But not that bad. It just felt like it took ages, but I guess it wasn't really that long. And I got to use some neat vintage buttons that I've had for a while. I'm happy with it, and it is nice and warm. And I loved the white fabric :) I've been holding on to it for a while. And my signature crazy contrasting lining.
Now, the black and white skirt. I love skirts for winter. I was always a fan of the highland winter type style, wool skirts, nice big sweaters. That was the inspiration in any case :P
What a disaster!
Disaster 1:Just so you know, not everything goes according to plan when you are working without patterns. So, I knew what I was going to do with this skirt forever ago, more than a year. Finally got around to it. Well, halfway through the yardage one of the lines was missing all the threads. Thus...fringe on the bottom :P So THAT is why it was on sale, lol. First issue overcome...
Disaster 2: So, this was my fault. I'm an idiot. I was being so careful to line up the plaid and everything that I lined it up just a little too perfect. Okay, so the thing is with woven fabrics, the backside is the opposite of the front. Meaning the white design on the black background squares? =black design on white background. Fabulous. So I took the front piece and laid it on top of the fabric to cut out the back. Two identical pieces (more or less). So, imagine it. You cut the damn thing out wrong side to right side of the fabric so that when you sew it together the front and back were different! ARGH. Me=Stupid.
Disaster 3: The shape is trickier than expected. The thing didn't fit even a little. Awful. So, FIX FOR DISASTER 2 and 3! Go me. I made inserts to stick into the long side so that the thing fit and flowed better (#3). Plus, I made multiple inserts for that side and did alternating front and back fabric so that it almost looks like the front back issue (#2) was on purpose.
Oh, and then the stupid waist band didn't fit. But that was easily fixable. What a disaster. Consider it a learning experience.
